The News Building - News UK

News UK

The News Building in London Bridge is home to 1800 staff across The Sun, The Times, The Sunday Times and the TLS, as well as the corporate functions such as advertising, marketing, finance and HR. Our editorial teams produce the national news titles here, bringing together the best of journalism and publishing across many platforms, from paper to pixels. Our staff commute in from across the South East and are keen supporters of the local community

  • Staff based at London Bridge headquarters came together to support the Borough Market traders affected by the recent terrorist attacks. The initiative, launched by Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch, saw every member of staff from News UK, Dow Jones and HarperCollins receive vouchers worth £10 to spend in the market and surrounding businesses. The vouchers, donated by News UK, mean that a total of around 3,000 employees should spend £30,000 on food and drink in Borough on Wednesday.
  • In the wake of the Manchester attacks, News UK donated £100,000 to launch The Sun’s ‘Together with Manchester’ appeal.
  • In the 12 hours following the Grenfell Tower atrocity, News Building-based staff bought in clothing and shoe donations – sending over four crates to victims.
  • Generous staff raised more than £5,000 for Save the Children in Christmas 2016.
  • We donated £100,000 via the News Corp Giving fund to charities voted for by News UK, Dow Jones and Harper Collins staff. This year’s four £25,000 donations went to Mary’s Meals; Whizz-Kidz; Refuge and Buttle UK. The News Corp Giving scheme winning charities visited The News Building to speak to staff, share their stories and reveal their plans for how they will spend the £25,000 donation.
  • We rallied staff to bring in unwanted coats and warm clothes for Wrap Up London, a charity that supports the homeless and elderly in London.
  • Our Technology staff raised more than £1,200 for homelessness charity Crisis by taking part of the Crisis Square Mile Relay Run in June 2016.
  • We support Macmillan each year at their annual Coffee Morning. In 2016 we raised money by hosting a ‘News UK Bake Off’.

  • Our CTO Christina Scott has spearheaded the search for software developers, by launching an Apprenticeship Scheme run in collaboration with ADA – National College of Digital Skills. This scheme, involving classroom and workplace training, involves studying towards a Foundation Degree in Digital Innovation.
  • We hosted Inspiring Women in Media as 150 girls from state schools in London and beyond quizzed 30 women from the world of media and journalism about their careers. The Inspiring Women campaign, run by the charity Education and Employers, teamed up with Women in Journalism (WiJ) and Inspiring Girls International for this one-off special event at The News Building.
